Musk finally takes Twitter for $44 million

Elon Musk has said it’s important to civilisation to have a “digital town square”.

The world’s richest man has sacked the social networking platform’s top executives after completing his protracted $44 billion takeover. He had previously tried to back out of the deal.

Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief executive, and Ned Segal, its chief financial officer have both left the company, along with Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust & safety, who made the decision to permanently suspend Donald Trump from the platform.

Declaring himself “Chief Twit” on his own Twitter profile, Musk said it was important that all beliefs could be debated without resorting to violence. He has already hinted that the former President could be allowed back on the platform.

“There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far-left echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

Musk said Twitter aspires to be the ”most respected advertising platform in the world”, adding that while low-relevancy adverts were Spam, highly relevant ads are actually content.
