DD, Doordarshan launched free mobile TV service in India. Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) service is now available in 16 cities on OTG enabled smartphones and tablets, with the help of DVB-T2 devices and iDTV.
National broadcaster Doordarshan has launched digital terrestrial television (DVB-T) in 16 cities in India to provide free mobile TV for the mobile audience. Sixteen cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Guwahati, Patna, Ranchi, Cuttack, Lucknow,Jalandhar, Raipur, Indore, Aurangabad, Bhopal, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
Mobile TV can be received in and around these cities by using DVB-T2 dongles in OTG enabled smartphones and tablet PCs and users can also watch live TV on mobiles by using in moving vehicles by using WIFI devices. Doordarshan channels are also available on the new platform to TVs available that have built in DVB-T2 tuner, called integrated digital TV (iDTV).
Although iDTV is readily available in the best-selling TVs sets from companies like Sony, LG, Panasonic, and Samsung but users can buy dongles from online shopping sites like Flipkart, eBay, and Snapdeal. Users must download the software and connect the dongles with the smartphones and tablets to receive DD signals.
It will be free for watching DD channels on DTT platform. Also no internet connection is required after the software is installed. Public and private transport vehicles and public places are potential environments for mobile TV.
Currently DD National, DD News, DD Bharati, DD Sports, DD regional / DD Kisan transmitted for mobile TV. Enabling the digital terrestrial television requires only a one-time investment for a dongle and involves no additional cost, as opposed to other services, such as Internet TV streaming. TV images are also free to ghosting and snow and there is now buffering problem in DD mobile TV service.
Digital terrestrial television provides a greater diversity in the ownership of the platform to ensure that no single owner of the platform can exert undue influence on public opinion or political agendas. The digital transition offers more opportunities for the local production of content, thereby increasing employment opportunities and creativity and entrepreneurship.
