Arab reality TV shows gains popularity yet again in MENA region


Arab reality TV shows get second wind. Arab reality television programs now made great share in reality shows TV programming in the Middle East, according to a study by the Arab Advisors Group.

Submitted by 17 analyzed Arab reality television shows during 2014 and March 2015, nine are original programs instead of localized global production formats by licensed companies. About 75% of all subsequent seasons of reality shows are on display in recent years, said the report's author, Hiba Rabadi, Saenior Research Analyst at Arab Advisors.

In 2014, actually 15 TV programs aired in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) on selected television channels in free to air TV mode while 17 reality TV shows have already been scheduled or to broadcast on certain popular Arab TV channels and are expected to broadcast this year.

The competition between satellite TV service resulted in an increase of the new high-quality entertainment to maintain and attract viewers and advertisers. "Reality TV charm lies in its novelty to the public and their low production costs, because the participants are mainly ordinary people and movie stars and TV stars and are not very well paid", Arab Advisors group said
